Nina Humphreys is an award-winning composer for the screen. Known for lyrical, dark and quirky scores, her eclectic credIts range from emotive character-led stories for contemporary and period settings to comedy, sci-fi and thrillers.

Recent projects include working once more with director John Strickland on In Plain Sight : the true-life thriller set in 1950's Glasgow. This 3-part drama will air on ITV in December 2016. Kipling's Indian Adventure : a documentary film from Blast! Films, broadcast on BBC2 earlier this year. Also, contemporary feature films, such as K Shop : a Sweeney Todd-inspired thriller, theatrically released summer '16; and Greyhawk, which premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival back in 2014. 

Nina has worked with director Richard Laxton on The Night Watch, a BBC film adapted by Paula Milne from Sarah Waters' novel. This dark and atmospheric film follows the lives of young Londoners during The Blitz, starring Anna Maxwell Martin, Jodie Whittaker, Clare Foy, Luke Treadaway and Kenneth Cranham, and premiered to a sell-out audience at the NFT.

She has worked with Julia Davis on her award-winning period-set black comedy Hunderby (Sky Atlantic) ; also with directors such as Hettie MacDonald (Abi Morgan's Bafta-winning White Girl), John Strickland (A for AndromedaThe Murder of Princess Diana), Craig Cash (Sunshine), Susanna White (Lie With Me) and Beeban Kidron (Bafta-winning Murder starring Julie Walters) for which the score was also RTS nominated.

Nina began composing from an early age, and after studying at Exeter and Bournemouth Universities (Bmus/MA in screen music) first came to the attention of producers when working on Jimmy McGovern's gritty contemporary drama, The Lakes II. Not long after, she scored William's Boyd's adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's WWII trilogy, Sword of Honour (starring Daniel Craig), winning the RTS for 'Best Original Score'.

Her music can range from large orchestral arrangements to contemporary music/sound design - across a wide range of budgets. Nina has also composed for Dance, Theatre, Radio, Animation and Silent Film, enjoying the collaborative process that comes with every commission. All her scores seek to bring a distinctive mood and flavour, specific to each story.
